Bodyscape: art and breath workshop

Bodyscape: art and breath workshop

Saturday 28th November
10am-1pm

The Didsbury Parsonage
Stenner Ln, Didsbury, Manchester M20 2RQ
by Fletcher Moss Park and Gardens

£40 general admission / £35 low income

Join us for a special creative wellbeing workshop, as I collaborate with artist Helena Tomlin in the setting of her latest exhibition, Oma Dreaming.

Embodied art activity, sensory walk around the gardens, talk from Helena on combining our inner and outer worlds in creative practice, and conscious connected breathwork from me to finish the day.

No art experience necessary. This event is all about the meditative process of creative exploration and listening to your body through art making. The emphasis is on the felt experience of self-expression and play, not the finished result.

Helena Tomlin is a highly esteemed artist, lecturer and art historian exploring memory and lost histories.

She makes artworks and collaborations that celebrate hidden stories of survival, exploring how memory, trauma and forgetting intersect.

As a multimedia artist, she combines painting, photography, textiles, collage and text work.

Helena will introduce her installation that will be on display at the venue, talk about how art helps us articulate feelings and make sense of our own experiences, and guide us through a drawing practice.

We will experiment with materials after a short winter walk around the gardens, to see which colours, shapes, textures and atmospheres we are drawn to.

We will then make individual scroll drawings that reflect on our inner and outer worlds. These ‘bodyscapes’ can be used to understand how we feel about our own inner rhythms when we immerse ourselves in nature and are ‘process’ pieces, rather than ‘finished’ artworks.

I will finish by leading a conscious connected breathwork session, helping to bring presence to what we feel and end the day feeling grounded in who we are.
